Abu Simbel

These felukas are very attractive boats.

and the view from our hotel was something.

You may have heard of the temples at Abu Simbel. They were raised 65 meters after the high dam at Aswan (built by the Russians) meant that their original location was to be flooded. If I remember correctly, there was a PBS show about this effort.

It is pretty cool. Here is the view flying in from Aswan:

and the temple itself. Who else? Ramses II!

And baboons exposing their bellies to the morning sun. (more on that below)

 More smiting.
 And more smiting

Doreen got the Key to the Temple from this fellow.

And then he took our photo.
 It's a mighty temple

Here is the smaller, Nefritari/Hothor temple. Ramses II built this for his favorite wife, Nefritari. You can see how favored she was because he actually put her image on one of those grand statues. The rest, of course are Ramses II

Hothar in the guise of a cow.

And again!

This is how you expect to see her.

So, Doreen wanted me to warm my belly in the sun, just like the baboons.

So I did!

On the bus to the airport.
 It was hot

If you look very closely in this image, a little up and to the right of Venus is Mercury. Don't see Mercury very often.

The Old Cataract Hotel is a nicer hotel than the Winter Palace, but the people aren't nearly as nice. But they have a fancy restaurant, and we ate there. It was ok.

This massage chair was in the hallway on the way to our room.

Sadly, it wasn't plugged in.
