Cairo - The Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is a wonder. It is a wonder with all the artifacts it houses, with the labyrinth design, with the dark rooms, and the close to handwritten labels. It sits on Tahrir Square of Arab Spring fame, and is a wonderful place. It, as much as anything else in the country, will be what draws me back to Egypt.

I'm not really going to go into each artifact. I didn't really take TOO many photos there - it is simply impossible. But I snapped a few. I didn't take any photos of the mummies of the Pharaohs. That seems disrespectful to me.

But did take photos of what could be called tombstones.

This is an amazing thing. A wooden stature with gemstones for eyes. (the guides use the flashlights on their mobile phones to make the eyes sparkle. I can't imagine that is good for the wood.)

One of the treasures of King Tut Ankh Amen's tomb. (King Tut) They had a complete room dedicated to the spoils of that tomb. That is the only room where a photo ban was strictly enforced. A guard was there who made people (not me!) delete photos. (The below was not in that room)

This is gold, by the way.

These are the canopic jars from the King Tut tomb.

You see these birds (Hoopoes) with some regularity in Cairo. It is the bird symbol of Saladin the Magnificent.

Doreen with our guide, Gamel, in the museum.

After the museum, we had lunch on the Nile.

Then we went to Coptic Cairo. This is from St George's Church. It is the chain that held St George.

and this is the niche where baby Jesus slept while the Holy Family was in Cairo

This was the room the Holy Family used.

and under that grate was where the Pharaoh's daughter found baby Moses.

After we got back to our hotel, we decided to walk to Giza again, and take in the pyramids at a more leisurely pace.

This camel guy (alternatively Mohammad or Atef) was trying and trying to get our custom. He photobombed us.

The site was mostly empty, and the pyramids are very photogenic.

 A camel even posed
 As did we.
Boy, it was a good day.
 A great trip
 and back to our hotel.
